Starcraft II

Postby Nivek TT » Thu Jul 22, 2010 1:27 pm

Out on the 27th. It's almost got me tempted to invest in a gaming PC!

Anyone else excited by this? Available for mac on the same day.

My overpriced underpowered graphics card may just run it. I'm interested in the idea of it, the crazy Korean players etc. But its an RTS and I'm not a big fan.

I remembered playing the original online. You would live in fear if an eastern sounding username appear cause it meant you were taking on a Korean and they were about to hand you your arse!

The engine seems incredible. Some insane mods have been created already!

just don't get on with RTS's. Rapidly lose track of whats going on, and become overwhelmed by the whole thing. Cannon Fodder on the Amiga was as good as it got for me

Starcraft did an incredibly good job of managing its learning curve while staying massively entertaining. I've never been big on RTS but Starcraft had me hooked! And the game modes available made the multiplayer so much more interesting than the typical rush tactics of other RTS, my personal favourite being a capture a randomly spawning flag type game. All parties would stay in some sort of truce in the centre, carefully staying out of range, until the flag spawned then all hell would break loose until someone managed to get a drone into the chaos and out with the flag... and rinse, and repeat

And the whole mythology is better than any game before and after! Check out the recent trailer...

Blizzard should be making movies as well as games!

Such a shame Starcraft Ghost never happened, but it seems like with this engine an fps or third person shooter mod ain't a problem. Check out Kotaku's report of some mods that have surfaced already, http://m.kotaku.com/5592523/games-withi ... arcraft-ii all achieved just tinkering with the beta.

Cameos a plenty in this. Here is Metroid, http://kotaku.com/5599368/youve-got-met ... arcraft-ii

But what made me most happy about this article is some n00b asking "So...can you make a Samus unit?" and some other n00b replying, "Do you have enough minerals?"

Swap 'enough' for 'the' and I'd have LMAO!

Stunning review from Eurogamer (9/10), http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/starc ... iew?page=1

Also, Battle.net's matchmaking sounds well impressive! Some of it's features are sure to be copied by Xbox Live in the future.

Hmm, just realised my macbook dosent have the minerals to run this (I got the cheapo version with the graphics card that dont do games) :(

Ill add this to my list of self justifications to buy a more expensive Mac that I dont really need.
